CADENCE WEAPON SIGNS TO BIG DADA IN UK & EUROPE
POP MONTREAL WITH BUCK 65
CMJ KICKS OFF FANTASY TOUR OF USA

Cadence Weapon and Upper Class Recordings inked a deal with whom The Fader calls “The most progressive British hip hop label ever” and the UK Observer refers to as “The very best underground hip hop label” – Big Dada Recordings (Roots Manuva, Spank Rock, TTC, Wiley). Cadence Weapon’s acclaimed debut album “Breaking Kayfabe” hit the shelves in the UK & Europe through Big Dada on September 24th, and its already stacking up the accolades in the UK press.

“A dense and abrasive record of astonishing precocity” – UNCUT ****

“this superior debut from Alberta rapper Roland Pemberton cuts adroitly from Oliver Square’s booty-shaking electro to the spare funk of Black Hand, crucially though, he’s just as sharp with a microphone in hand” – Q Magazine

“Cadence breaks the binds of convention, eschewing sloppy hip-hop clichés; his lyrical exhortations are as fresh and sharp as shrapnel, but as measured as the scales of justice” – Drowned In Sound 9/10

Cadence heads to UK/Europe in November touring Kayfabe, but not before a romp across North America…

Back in Canada, Cadence Weapon joins Buck 65 to rock La Tulipe during Pop Montreal on October 5th, then heads to New York for a host of shows and parties for the CMJ Music Marathon, before hitting the road on one of the most remarkable indie tours of recent times;

Sparked by a bond between two young rising stars on the opposite ends of the alternative music spectrum that began in 2006, fellow Canadians – Owen Pallett, aka Final Fantasy and Rollie Pemberton, aka Cadence Weapon, were nominated for the inaugural Polaris Music Prize. They then shared the cover of Toronto’s weekly, Eye Magazine, in a fist fight, which moved their mutual admiration as artists into a friendship. So when the two young musicians were approached by Canadian national radio show CBC “Fuse” back in April of this year to share the stage for a six-song live collaboration, Owen & Rollie jumped at the chance to work together. Like a successful vaudeville show, their inverse personalities and polar-opposite ways of rocking crowds have brought them together, and so it is… Cadence Weapon and Final Fantasy have decided to co-headline a tour of The United States this fall.

Cadence Weapon’s punishing electronic party rap live show will be a stark contrast to the emotional solo violin looping extravaganza that Final Fantasy puts on, making for one of the most interesting co-bills ever. Both artists will play favourites from their past acclaimed releases “Breaking Kayfabe” and “He Poos Clouds”, as well as showcasing highly anticipated new material, including Cadence Weapon’s sophomore full-length “Afterparty Babies” due March 2008.
