Play listed at MUCHMUSIC + MUCHVIBE
Upper Class Recording artist Roland Pemberton better known as Cadence Weapon, was this week shown some great Canadian honours surrounding the 20-year-old’s debut album BREAKING KAYFABE and his first single/video “BLACK HAND”.
The Polaris Music Prize, Canada’s new award for “Canadian Album Of The Year Based Solely On Artistic Merit”recently announced their short list of 10 nominees for the 1st annual prize. Cadence Weapon’s BREAKING KAYFABE shares the Polaris short list with 9 incredible artists including Wolf Parade, Broken Social Scene, The New Pornographers and Metric. “A very proud day for Upper Class…it is an incredible honour to be included in this critics list, and in such good company. A well deserved congratulations to the young Mr. Pemberton and his fellow nominees.” Cadence Weapon will break from his national tour to perform at the September 18 Polaris Music Prize Gala in Toronto.
On the heels of the Polaris Music Prize nomination, Muchmusic and Much Vibe gave the big thumbs up for Cadence Weapon’s debut video “Black Hand”. This great piece of eye candy has Cadence Weapon appearing on screen with a dusty old documentary type flick, unleashing a sci-fi epic about two giant hands terrorizing a cityscape until the two villains meet hands and do battle. This fresh new vision of hip-hop videos comes from the bright minds at Fluoresent Hill and has been added into medium rotation on both stations this week. The “Black Hand” single goes for adds at commercial radio next week.
