Toronto electro-dance-rockers’ sophomore release kicked off with a Juicy national tour

Toronto-based synthesizing crew The Cansecos pulled a surprise move this summer and released “Juiced!” – music history’s first premix; a remixed adaptation of their forthcoming second studio album “Juices!” released long before the original album. The self-released 50-minute disco-epic party mix, made available for free, only on the band’s website www.thecansecos.com, and circulated through live shows, peer portals and blogs seemed to do the summer trick for music fans; appeasing fans around the globe and finding admirers in the online music media, led by Pitchforkmedia.com, CBCradio3.com, Bandeapart.fm, Fluxblog.org, Gorillavsbear, and Exclaim.ca.

“Juiced!” was a unique yet highly effective set-up for the unveiling of the proper second studio album from the band the NY Observer states “is poised to replace The Rapture as the dance/rock hybrid that everyone’s mooning over.”

The Cansecos “Juices!” will be released in Canada November 20, on the always-fresh Upper Class Recordings (The Russian Futurists, Cadence Weapon).

Enlisting the help of Adam Nunn (Radiohead, Air) at Abbey Road Studios to help finish off the new record, The Cansecos have returned in pursuit of electronic rock’s future, taking further their experimentations with cut-and-paste sampling layered against intriguing pop melodies, live instruments vs. programmed beats, analog mixed with digital, dark ruminations vs. playful humour; merging into an overall blissful and daring music journey that is sure to warm many ears throughout the years to come.

The Cansecos are Toronto writing/production duo Bill Halliday and Gareth Jones, with live and studio support from rhythm aces Paul Prince (bass) and “Steely” Dan McCormick (drums). Their forward efforts in psychedelic electro-funk/rock production, melded with classic pop song writing, yield “emotionally rich, sonically widescreen mini-symphonies produced in bedrooms for less than most semi-solvent artists spend consulting their stylists for an hour” (Michael White, Editor – Westender).

The new album cooked up by Halliday and Jones follows up on a wild self-produced, self-titled debut whose 2003 release caught some attention for the duo being “true visionaries when it comes to creating a musical realm of endless possibilities” (Careless Talk), scoring an 8.2 on Pitchforkmedia.com, and generally receiving a warm welcome from the world for their fresh take on electronic music, despite that the recording of the album was done on little more than some outdated, falling-apart computers and a four-track recorder.

The Cansecos deploy their live band formation in November to perform the songs of “Juices!” and “Juiced!” across Canada, playing shows in the west with Small Sins and the east with label-mates The Russian Futurists.
